Ecosystems Research Group
|
The Ecosystems Research Group (ERGo) studies the nutritional and hydrological processes that determine productivity and long-term sustainability of natural ecosystems. We also undertake process-based studies of revegetated mined areas, of tree crops and plantations, and of agroforestry systems. General areas of study include: - biogeochemical cycling at multiple scales - rhizosphere to landscape
- net primary production (NPP) above and belowground
- water and nutrient acquisition and use by trees
- root-soil interactions including many aspects of biochemical and biological processes in the rhizosphere
- assessing plasticity of tree root growth (including root architecture) in response to adverse or extreme growth conditions
- fire ecology and fire behaviour of semi-arid and forest ecosystems
- ecophysiology & functioning of mulga woodlands
- climate-growth relationships of Callitris and other tree species & their potential for climate reconstruction
