Rottnest Postgrad Summer School

The Rottnest Postgraduate Summer School is unique to the School of Plant Biology, and is a three-day retreat in a relaxed atmosphere, designed to give postgraduates in the School a chance to get to know each other and learn about what each other is studying. New postgraduate students are encouraged to attend the post graduate summer camp to get to know the school and its culture.

The Summer School is coordinated by students and is hosted by the School at no cost to students. It is usually held in February at the Kingstown Barrack's Youth Hostel. Rottnest Island is a beautiful location just off the coast of Western Australia, with spectacular scenery, and activities such as snorkeling, biking, bushwalking, and the perennial favourite - relaxing at the pub!

The Postgraduate Summer School includes:

  • presentations by all postgraduates
  • invited international guest speakers
  • lectures about how to write a publication, biometrics, equity and diversity
  • social activities such as BBQs and a quiz night

A prize is awarded for the best postgraduate presentations.
